GARDENS
In 2016, we partnered with SHIP (Statewide Health Improvement Partnership) and were able to fund purchasing the lumber and materials required to build Chippewa’s raised garden beds. Then, working with the Montevideo High School agriculture department, local high school students built the gardens for us.
And in 2022, we again partnered with SHIP (Statewide Health Improvement Partnership) and were able to fund a sweet corn garden.
The gardens have been an amazing addition to our programming. We can plant almost anything we want in them. The raised beds are built high enough to allow wheelchair access and are the right height to eliminate bending over to work in them. Our clients plant, water, and pick all the produce within the gardens. We are using the gardens to help them build skills, self-confidence, and independence – all in our own backyard!
